Red garden

Last week I made some paper cut-outs to use in collage and mixed media pieces. I didn't have a specific idea on how will I use them but I thought it would be cool to document them before they get used. I put my materials on a table and floor and took a few pictures:

I decided to start working spontaneously without any previous sketches or definite ideas and let the piece develop itself. But I did know I'd like to create a larger piece than usual so I used a big red background (100x70cm in size) as a starting point. I was adding a paper cut-out after paper cut-out and then outlined them using black paint to enhance the shapes and ,sort of, tie them together. After that I glued some more smaller cut-outs ( parts of pages from my late English dictionary :-)) and painted some lines.

This is a "work in progress" photo collage:

Finished piece reminded me of some sort of abstract garden so I called it "Red garden":

finished!

Wonderfully inventive procedure - a bit like mosaic with paper.
