Little elephant lino print

Last night I started working on a little lino print, haven't done one in about thirteen years so it seemed like an exciting thing to try. I found an old elephant doodle in one of my sketchbooks and it looked appropriate to turn it into a lino print.

Carving process was a lot of fun, I started it last night and finished this afternoon.
You can see the first print I made on the right (and sorry for my ink stained hands :-)):

The print didn't turn out as precise as I'd like it to be (and I really like precision :-)) but I wasn't totally unsatisfied either so it was used as apart of a card:

Red garden

Last week I made some paper cut-outs to use in collage and mixed media pieces. I didn't have a specific idea on how will I use them but I thought it would be cool to document them before they get used. I put my materials on a table and floor and took a few pictures:

I decided to start working spontaneously without any previous sketches or definite ideas and let the piece develop itself. But I did know I'd like to create a larger piece than usual so I used a big red background (100x70cm in size) as a starting point. I was adding a paper cut-out after paper cut-out and then outlined them using black paint to enhance the shapes and ,sort of, tie them together. After that I glued some more smaller cut-outs ( parts of pages from my late English dictionary :-)) and painted some lines.

This is a "work in progress" photo collage:

Finished piece reminded me of some sort of abstract garden so I called it "Red garden":

Some card designs and one friendly whale

I was asked to make these cards. First three say "Happy Birthday" and the one with a hedgehog and a pear says "Thank you!" in Croatian.

Here are some ideas for characters I been working on:

And, finally, here is one strange looking, but friendly whale:

I wish you all a wonderful weekend!

Project 365- fifth month

It's another month gone by of my 365 project on flickr. Every day , for the past five months I've been taking some time to practice my photography skills, come up with new ideas or just document my drawings and illustration on photos. These are a few of my favorites over the past thirty days:

Bird doodles and a "making of" video

bird doodles

mushroom birdie

I made a "making of" video of this little mushroom birdie doodle. It turned out pretty trashy (but no wonder since it was taken with 7 years old mini dv camera, and I compressed 7 GB of materials into 1.5 MB and turned 32 minutes into 32 seconds :)) but I decided not to be a perfectionist and post it anyway! And that strange sound is actually a sound of my pens sketching, just 7 times faster than usual.

Little paintings and other stuff

I wanted to share some pictures of things I recently created:

day 138/365: little paintings
Three little paintings (on three little cameras, :-)), the bigger one is 20x30 cm in size and smaller ones are 16x22cm, all three are acrylics on canvas.

work in progress
Ok, so this is still work in progress, I hope to finish it soon, gouache on paper.

experimentation
I've had some photo paper that was very low quality and I couldn't use it for printing so I decided to use it anyway and play with ink a bit.

2 drawings
Two drawings, done very quickly with golden and silver markers.
